Vic Markets

Another day, another lovely lunch. Today I met with Emily at the Queen Victoria markets for a kebab and some retail therapy.

I have always loved Andreas Gursky!!

NGV has a large show by Andreas Gursky. I had seen some of his work overseas but to see quite a few in one place was yummy.

a lovely dinner

Off to Emily and Moy's place for a truly fabulous dinner. Other guests were Rowena, Stevie and Jeff.

There was wine and conversation and I ran out of battery for the flash.

what is with the large lunches!!

Off to teh Meat Market to meet with the lovely Jeff Khan at his Next Wave office. We went for lunch at he pub next door and again I was gobsmacked by the size of the meal.

Jeff is back to the grindstone so we had a short meeting but i will see him when he comes to Brisvegas on the lookout for talent for Primavera.

Off to NGV Ian Potter Gallery

The two exhibitions at Fed Square are Rennis Ellis photographs and a large survey of Rosalie Gascoigne. I enjoyed the early work of Ms Gascoingne which i did not know as well as her later works. The social documentary works of Rennie ellis brought back memories i would rather forget.

Docklands

After going to Australia at the Brighton cinema, I hopped on trains and trams for a spin around Docklands. Primary colours and abstract shapes abouns, and they are very proud of their public artworks, the most famous arguably being the cow up the tree.

lunch at the Brighton pub

I am single handedly resposible for the death of the largest calamari in the history of pub food, including tentacles much like an octopus.

I love that you can catch a train RIGHT to the beach!! Had a lovely day.

Brad Pitt is the most beautiful human on the planet

Bridge Road

Decided to hit Bridge Road for a spot of retail therapy. It wasn't very crowded which was great, but it made me realise how far Brisvegas has come as I couldn't find anything extra special to buy. Saved me heaps.

the last room was a let down

After spending a long time in the wonderful installation rooms, I was disapointed to find the final room was a series of photographs from their previous trip to Australia. They were interesting to a point, but in an installation that was so well considered so far as creating an ambience, and with great details such as scale, this was not necessary or relevant. Perhaps if you entered seperately and it was under a different "theme title", it would have been fine, but it seemed try hard. I didn't dwell on it though and was pleased to exit back through the other sections for a final look.

a chance to re-position

This room was interesting as you could place yourself in a prone position under joyful mobiles or a rock in a sling. The shadows created from the "botanical calders"were exquisite.

the middle bit

Entering a large room filled with a video installation, i was entranced by the change in scale. In the middle of the room was a waterbed, but at first my experience was spoiled by 2 women and a baby who were lounging on the bed discussing loudly the outcome of a hidoeus relationship triangle while the baby screamed it's thoughts.
Eventually they left and I could lie on the undulating watery mattress and take in the video. I loved how the macro lens footage of the previous installation drew you in to the actual shapes and bauty of the other room.
I took this opportunity to listen to the ipod interview with the artists.

The Waterhole by Gerda Steiner and Jorg Lenzlinger

Words don't do it justice, so to read more about the artwork, go to http://www.accaonline.org.au/MediaReleaseGerdaSteinerandJorgLenzlinger

After entering through a silver fabric tunnel which sighed as the visitors moved past, the installation opened up to an amazing wonderful fantastical landscape. I LOVED IT LOVED IT LOVED IT!!

Off to ACCA

Off to ACCA to see a show!!

ACCA is a great gallery and I usually love their shows. This one had been recommended so I was excited.

HANGOVER HELL!!

Well I deserved everything I got and woke up very slowly. Staggered down for the full breakfast and then back up for a spa bath which turned me into a semi human.

New Gold Mountain

http://www.newgoldmountain.org/New_Gold_Mountain.html for info.
The next venue was the Cassandra Complex designed New Gold Mountain Bar, up the stairs from the popular double happiness Bar. Sour cocktail no 5 was a cracker and we had very many different combinations and ciggies and larfs and were joined by the lovely Nat, a friend of old.

reunion no 1

The venue for the initial reunion was the Citu wine shop where, after kissy kissy, we drank gins, a beautiful red, and had a damn fine meal. I had the pork belly in roast pear and lentil salad. Others had the rabbit sausage roll and the risotto. All pronounced good. Dessert was spactacular: pecan pie out of this world, summer oudding to die for and a chocolate soemthing that should be illegal.
A GREAT START!!

cruising up Lygon Street

Set out in the arvo to catch up on what had changed in Lygon Street since the last time ......casing the hood as it were. Happened upon a cinema and Slumdog Millionaire was about to start so i decided to see it.
I loved it!
It was one of those movies which capture your heart. It is so sad, funny, romantic, shocking and visually stunning. I love a good efit and some of the scenes were so spectacular with colour and movement and a fast edit set to great bollywood type music. It all came together really well. Make sure you stay for the credit run.

cue: Dusty Springfield.

I am staying at the Downtowner in Lygon street which is location location location. And I have ordered the spa bath room !!!

My story begins.

I had to get up early and get to the airport, but I have to say the Qantas club does a great bircher muesli but a shocking coffee. But was all good, and the flight to Melbourne made bearable by a reeeeely old re-run of fawlty towers (the one with the Australian girl and the psychiatrist and such classic lines such as "brilliantined stick insect".

let's start at the very beginning.

In 2008, 4 people set out on a great adventure in the Indochine country of Cambodia. They were Di, Ali, Emily and Jeff. They were DaEJ! They were awesome and had no peer. But they had a friend, Ben. He was on his own great adventure and the 5 met at bars and clubs and swapped stories.

And then, in 2009, January 3rd, DaEJ and Ben arranged to meet in Melbourne, Australia, and BADeJ was BORN!!
